Alta Refrigeration, a company that designs and installs refrigeration systems, has installed a 98.7kW solar PV system on the roof of its Peachtree City, Georgia facility. The system, which consists of modules made by Georgia-based Suniva, is expected to reduce meter power usage by more than 50%, according to the company.
Alta Refrigeration contracted Atlanta-based Inman Solar to help develop and integrate a solar system.
The Alta project has utilized state and federal grants, that it received as a part of Clean Energy Property Rebate program administered by the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority (GEFA) under American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
GEFA promotes the stewardship of Georgia’s energy, land and water resources and encourages economic development through low-interest loan and grant programs.
Terry Childers, vice president of Alta, said: ”For us, we are benefiting greatly from shaving our peak demand usage, which utilities charge commercial customers in order to maintain adequate system capacity during peak usage hours.
”We’ve reduced our power usage by more than 50% and reduced our demand rate by more than 30%, so Alta is not only using less power, it is paying less for what they use.”
Phil Foil, executive director of GEFA, said: ”The use of solar energy is growing in Georgia and these incentives help to promote solar as a viable source of renewable energy in our state.”
