In a press release announcing the agreement, Alstom said that it will supply a full turnkey simple-cycle power plant, integrating in-house core plant components.
Under the terms of the deal, Alstom will initially supply two GT13E2 gas turbines, which the group claims is currently the most efficient gas turbine in its class. In addition, Alstom will supply two air-cooled turbo-generators.
Alstom revealed that it is also in the final stage of negotiating the supply of a third GT13E2 gas turbine, along with a third air-cooled turbo-generator.
According to Alstom, the new fast-track contract is part of Algeria’s emergency program, which aims to rapidly increase the country’s power generating capacity, as demand has been increasing at a rate of approximately 5% each year, fuelled by industrial development, significant investment in infrastructures and a growing population.
With this new agreement, Alstom reinforces its partnership with Sonelgaz, following the group’s 2003 construction of a turnkey power plant in F’Kirina, east of Algiers.
