Alstom Projects India has secured a contract worth approximately INR1.24bn from Dans Energy for a hydroelectric plant on the Rangit river in the Indian state of Sikkim.

According to Dans Energy, the contract is for supply, installation, testing and commissioning of electro-mechanical equipments for the 96MW Jorethang Loop run-of-river hydroelectric project.

The contract comprises of the turbine, generator, balance of plants and auxiliaries. The first unit is planned to be commissioned by March 2012.

Dans Energy signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sikkim government in December 2005 for implementation of the Jorethang Loop project on a build, own, operate and transfer basis. The operational period extends for 35 years from commercial operation date of the project.

Dans Energy is a special purpose vehicle set up for the implementation of the Jorethang Loop hydroelectric project.
