Uganda Electricity Generation Company has awarded alstom the contract for supply and installation of the fourth 40MW hydroelectric unit in Kiira hydro power station, formerly known as New Owen Falls. The contract is turnkey and covers turbines, generators, gates, electrical balance of plant and civil works for installation of the unit in the existing pit. The contract is valued at US$20M with completion scheduled within 26 months.

Kiira power station is designed for a total of five units. Generators and electrical balance of plant for the first three units were supplied by Alstom with Swedish financing and the units were commissioned during 2000-2002. This fourth unit is being financed by the World Bank.
