Reactor refurbishment to deliver results for Sweden

A contract worth around €190 million has been won by Alstom that will see the group provide new steam turbines and generators as part of the refit of the Ringhals nuclear station in Sweden owned by Vattenfall and Sydkraft.

Under the contract, Alstom will supply new internal parts for four turbine/generator sets at units 3 & 4 of the plant. Each set contains one generator, one high-pressure steam turbine and three low-pressure steam turbines. Alstom will also install instrumentation and control equipment that will see the plant output rise to slightly more than 1,100 MW on unit 3 and approximately 1,150 MW on unit 4 from the current 920 MW.

Most of the work will be carried out during scheduled annual outage periods, with the main installation work for unit 3 taking place in 2006 and 2007, and in 2008 and 2011 for unit 4.
