Equipment at the100 MW hydroelectric power plant, located on the river Nemunas in the city of Kaunas, 100 km west of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius is to be refurbished by Alstom.
The contract covers new turbine runners, hydro mechanical equipment, new electrical balance of plant including instrumentation and control equipment, and rehabilitation of the four 25 MW generators.
Design work is under way with site work scheduled to begin this autumn. The project is expected to be completed in 2008. The contract is worth an estimated $4 – $5 million.
The company has also won a contract worth more than €30 million to install low-NOx burners and burner management systems at the Lithuanian Power Station, located in Elektrenai, 50 km from Vilnius. The power station has four 150 MW and four 300 MW boilers burning gas, heavy fuel oil and orimulsion, which were originally supplied by Russian manufacturer Tagounrog and commissioned during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
ALSTOM will upgrade the burners on six of the boilers, ensuring that the plant meets the European Union’s forthcoming Large Combustion Plant Directive.
