These new advanced coatings named under the Alstom’s Polypad will increase bearing pad performance and durability, thereby helping the customers to benefit from decreased maintenance and increased reliability, the company claims.
Besides, Polypad supports more weight than traditional thrust bearing pads and have the ability to accept upgraded higher power generators without the need to replace the original thrust bearing in retro-fit applications.
Alstom renewable power R&D senior vice president Maryse Francois-Xausa having tested many materials to match its Polypad, it could not find the reliable materials, but now it will use advanced coatings from Daido Metal in its thrust bearings.
"Polypad is another example of Alstom offering its hydro customers the latest innovations the market has to offer," added Xausa.
Daido Metal chairman and CEO Seigo Hanji said that the agreement, which is the latest step in a decade-long working relationship between the companies, will allow global hydro customers to benefit from its coatings.
