Under the €50m contract, Alstom will provide four 175MW Francis turbine-generator sets and related equipment for installation at the $1.3bn hydropower plant.
Alstom Hydro China will be responsible for the equipment design, manufacturing, supervision to the installation, commissioning, testing as well as site services, as part of the contract.
Expected to be the country’s largest hydropower project upon completion, the Zungeru power plant is being developed by China National Electric Engineering in partnership with Sinohydro.
Being built on the middle and upper reaches of River Kaduna near Zungeru, the project is also expected to contribute to the social and economic growth in the region.
Alstom Renewable Energies hydro senior vice-president Yves Rannou said: "Zungeru is one of several hydro projects that are part of Nigeria’s Renewable Energy Master Plan.
"Winning this project is another fruitful result from a strong and long-term cooperation with our Chinese partners."
The Nigeria Renewable Energy Master Plan is intended to boost renewable energy while contributing to the country’s goal to generate 23% of total power generation from renewable sources by 2025 and 36% by 2030.
Renewable power currently contributes 13% of the total power requirement in the county.
