The 486MW Karadeniz Powership Osman Khan plant is said to be the world’s largest floating power plant, and planned to be completed early 2016.
Under the contract, Alstom will be responsible for the design, manufacture and delivery of 200 MVA power transformers including commissioning, field tests and respective spare parts.
The company will manufacture the transformers in Alstom Grid’s manufacturing site in Gebze, Turkey.

The Turkey-based Karadeniz Enerji Group (Karpowership) started designing and producing Powerships in 2007 and launched the first floating energy ship in 2010.
A powership is a floating power plant either a barge or ship mounted facility converted from bulk carriers, heavy lift vessels and barges.
Constructed on-board large vessels, the floating power plants generate and supply electricity to the countries as part of the commercial agreements signed under the Power of Friendship project.
The Powerships are designed to promptly address short term energy problems by connecting into the electricity grid immediately upon berthing.
Karpowership is planning to expand its fleet to nine energy ships in a bid to increase the installed power, from 1500MW to over 5000 MW by the end of 2017.
