The contract requires Alstom to design, manufacture, construct, install, test and commission the new 300 MVAr, 230 kV SVC, to be situated in West Wharton, New Jersey.
The device will regulate transmission voltage to maintain and improve network performance.
The project is part of FirstEnergy’s ‘Energizing the Future’ program which includes strengthening the network supply in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions.
Under the program, the current equipment will be upgraded with new technology to improve electricity service reliability to more than six million customers.
Alstom said its SVC will protect the network against disturbances like faults, and lower the occurrence of power outages.
