The 1,200MW facility will be the first ultrasupercritical coal-fired power plant to be built by an independent power producer in Korea, according to Dongbu.
Generators and turbines will be manufactured at Alstom’s production sites in China and Europe and deliveries are expected to be complete in 2016.
On completion, the Dongbu Green Power Plant is expected to contribute to the country’s rising energy demands that are anticipated to grow at 2.3% annually through 2030.
The company has delivered over 20 gas turbines and supplied about 50% of Korea’s installed boilers and hydro turbines.
Alstom Thermal Power senior vice president Andreas Lusch commented, "This success reinforces our customer’s confidence in our ultrasupercritical technology to produce cheaper, cleaner power for Korean consumers and businesses, thus significantly contributing to Korea’s efforts to meet its energy demands."
