Under the contract, the company will upgrade the turbines with its MXL2 upgrade package to help increase the plant’s flexibility and competitive advantage.
The multi-mode MXL2 retrofit product is expected to provide DUBAL the ability to achieve a 1% increase in combined cycle mode efficiency as already proven with a previous implementation of the product in the UK, the company claims.
Alstom Thermal Services senior vice president Michael Rechsteiner said the MXL2 contract builds on the company’s long-term engagement and follows previous leading edge projects it had undertaken for DUBAL, such as the multi-purpose, load balancing GTX cogeneration plant.
”We are confident that MXL2 is well-suited for DUBAL and is an attractive option for many customers in the Middle East and the Gulf, where around 30% of Alstom’s global GT13E2 fleet is installed,” Rechsteiner added.
In addition, the technology will also produce an additional 12MW of gross power output, reduce CO2 emissions and also increase service intervals by one-third, thereby contributing to significant reduction in operating costs.
Work under the contract is expected to complete in early 2015.
