Worth over €4m, the contract aims to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to a half in the Kladno region.
Under the project, the existing coal-fired fluidized bed boilers will be refurbished in 2014.
The European Union (EU) in 2010 released the Industrial Emissions directive, which required combustion plants producing more than 50 MW1 to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions down to 200mg/Nm3.
The directive will come into effect in 2016.
Alstom Czech Republic and Slovakia president Petr Brzezina said their company specializes in projects to slash nitrogen oxide emissions.
"Until now, only pulverised coal boilers were modernised in the Czech Republic. Modernising one of the largest power plants with fluidized bed boilers is very unique for Alstom and the whole industry," Brzezina added.
Alstom’s first clean power solution project in Czech Republic was completed in 2010 at the Prunerov power plant owned by CEZ.
