As per the contract worth €80m, Alstom will provide two Bulb turbines, four generators, two speed governors, two excitation systems and six bus bars for the plant located on the Madeira River in Rondonia.
IMMA, a joint venture of Alstom and Bardella, will provide 100% of the hydro-mechanical and lifting equipment for the project.
Once commissioned in December 2016, the additional equipment will increase the capacity of the project by 417MW to 3,568MW.
Alstom’s Taubate facility will manufacture the new equipment for the project, which will generate enough electricity to power around 44 million people. The bulb units are suitable for projects faced with heads of up to 30m, Alstom claims.
Alstom has already won a contract in 2008 to supply 19 bulb turbines and 22 generators for the project, while IMMA is responsible for the hydromechanical and lifting equipment.
