The Ligga power station is capable of producing 1656GWh, which corresponds to an average annual electricity consumption of 83,800 Swedish homes.

Alstom will be responsible for the supply of a new pilot bearing and oil pressure system to the hydro turbine.

Additionally, the company will dismantle, rebuild and re-assemble existing equipment on the turbine.

In order to assess its technical performance guarantees, Model testing will be performed on the new hydro turbine by Alstom Renewable Sweden in Vattenfalls turbine laboratory in Älvkarleby in Sweden.

Vattenfall Nordic Hydro Power managing director Christer Ljunggren said: "We have chosen Alstom as supplier for this important modernization project based on a combination of the technical solution offered and a competitive price."
