Alstom Hungary Thermal Power Service division has completed first air quality project for the Pannon Power Plant, a part of Dalkia Energy group.

The new electrostatic precipitators have been designed to reduce the dust emission of the wood chip fired blocks in Pécs biomass power plant in order to meet the EU’s strict emission standards set for 2016.

Alstom has commissioned the two electrostatic precipitators in one of the biomass-fired blocks to increase efficiency of the Pécs power plant.

Operated by Pannon Power Plant, the Pécs power plant is considered to be the largest biomass-fired power plant in Hungary.

Featuring two biomass blocks and two natural-gas auxiliary boilers, the facility will provide entirely green energy for 31,000 households and 450 public institutions in Pécs.

Currently, the power plant has two operational biomass blocks, one of them with wood and the other with baled agricultural fuel.

Alstom Hungary Power Service managing director Dr Csaba Kiss said: "This technology can be used in other power plants fueled by fossil fuels, as well as in cement factories."
