The deal is with worth ZMW18.25m ($3.38m), wherein Alstom Hydropower-Europe will supply and install runners for the project located on the Zambezi River.

Zesco managing director Cyprian Chitundu was quoted as saying by Hydro World, "Installation of runners at the two generators is essential for us because it will help improve performance in that each of the two machines will be able to produce 180 mega watts.

"In order to maximise the benefits accrued from the rehabilitation programme, addendum number four valued at Euros 13,547,561.00 and ZMW 18,248,099.00 has been approved," elaborated Chitundu.

The rehabilitation of Kariba North Bank Power Station also includes installation of DC motors for high pressure lubrication oil pumps on each unit and modifications to 110V DC switch board supply.

Alstom general manager Jacques Hardelay assured the delivery of the components as per schedule given that the modernization of Kariba North Bank Power Station is an important part of Zambia’s power infrastructure rehabilitation.
