The contract will require the company to supply Fixed Series Compensation (FSC) system to the new Black Range site in South Australia, which is halfway along the 300km long, 275KV transmission line connecting South Australian transmission network with Victoria.
The FSC system will be capable of increasing the power transmission capacity by around 40%, as well as improving power quality along the South Australia – Victoria transmission line.
Alstom’s FSC system, along with its capacitors, will improve efficiency in a power grid by minimizing electrical losses and increasing the transmission system’s overall transfer capability.
The contract will also include the project management, design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the FSC system.
To be executed by Alstom units in Australia and Finland, the project will be commissioned in July 2016.
The project will allow increased wind energy exports from South Australia and increased imports of lower-cost generation into South Australia, particularly at times of peak demand.
