Power transmission company Alstom Grid has acquired Canadian smart grid technology firm ASAT Solutions.

ASAT specializes in managing, securing, and delivering substation information for utility operation, maintenance and asset management applications.

Alstom said the smart substation technologies will allow the electric utilities to be proactive with the information for improving the power system operation, efficiency and reliability.

The acquisition of ASAT products’ will complement Alstom Grid’s MiCOM protection relay range and expand the offering of the DS Agile digital control systems.

Alstom Grid Substation Automation Solutions vice president Herve Amosse said the acquisition is an opportunity for the company to help accelerate the development of ASAT business, while expand its smart grid ready offer to the market.

ASAT Solutions president and CEO Manford Kwan said, "We look forward to seeing our products and solutions integrated into the SAS portfolio and to accelerate growth through SAS global manufacturing and engineering sites."
