Located adjacent to the existing 2,380MW two Narva power plants in Estonia, the new facility is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of this year.
Managed by Estonian state-owned utility company Eesti Energia through its subsidiary Narva Elektrijaamad, the power project features Alstom-built circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler technology and uses local oil shale and biomass as fuel.
Alstom was awarded engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract in 2011, to develop the power generation facility.
As part of the contract, the company manufactured, supplied and installed, and is currently testing the unit. It will also supply final fuel handling, CFB boiler, steam turbine, generator, flue gas treatment, automation & control and electrical systems.
Eesti Energia production director Raine Pajo said: "The connection with grid is a proof that all systems of the plant are functioning.
"Testing and commissioning of the plant now continues until November this year."
The plant will serve majority of the country’s electricity needs in full compliance with the stringent EU emission directives.
Separately, Alstom is providing maintenance services of turbines and boilers of the existing plants, under a long term service agreement (LTSA).
