French multinationals Alstom and Capgemini have concluded a global alliance agreement to jointly pursue commercial opportunities for their smart grid solutions.

The two companies, as part of the agreement, will unveil new cloud-based solutions – the Integrated Distribution Management Systems (IDMS) and Demand Response Management System (DRMS).

Both systems are built on Alstom’s e-terra 3.0 network management software platform and provide provide real-time distribution and demand response system management from a cloud environment resulting in lowered costs and increased reliability.

Capgemini corporate vice president Perry Stoneman remarked that the cloud based solutions will offer its customers a secure virtual IT solution that is combined with Alstom Grid’s e-terra smart control room solutions.

Alstom Grid Network Management Systems VP Karim El Naggar added, "We want distribution utilities and their customers to benefit from our advanced smart grid applications in an easier and more cost effective way, based on the latest private cloud-based solutions from Capgemini."

The platform allows utilities to gradually roll out real-time SCADA , Distribution Management System, Operator Management System and DRMS and progressively embark on the new smart grid environment.
