Alstom has been awarded an order valued at approximately US$12.8M by Guizhou Wujiang Hydro Power Development Co, China, for the supply of three 200MW Francis turbines to the Suofengying hydro power station in the southwestern province of Guizhou.

Alstom’s hydro division in China is responsible for this project. The 6.1m diameter turbines will be manufactured in the Tianjin facility, which has the capacity to supply a full range of hydro power generation equipment and control systems, as well as project management expertise.

Hydraulic design and model tests will be performed in the Alstom hydro turbine technology centre in Grenoble, France. The equipment has a 44- month delivery schedule, the first unit being due for commissioning at the end of 2005.

This is the second significant order from Guizhou Wujiang Hydro Power Development Co for Alstom. The company’s engineers in China are currently executing an order received in 2001 for the refurbishment of Wujiangdu hydro power plant (3 x 250MW).

Hydraulic model tests were performed recently to the customer’s full satisfaction and delivery will begin this year as per schedule.
