Alpiq has sold its 26% share in hydro operator Gommerkraftwerke AG to Swiss energy firm Groupe E, taking a further step in its plans for a streamline generation portfolio.

As a result of the deal Groupe E will now own a 71% share in Gommerkraftwerke, which runs three hydroelectric facilities in the upper Valais region with a total capacity of 132MW. The sale, for which the financial value was undisclosed, was completed on 31 August.

In a statement, Alpiq said that with a generation capacity of approximately 2800MW, hydropower remains a main pillar of Alpiq’s generation portfolio. The Group said it intends to maintain its commitment to preserving Swiss hydropower.
