Alliance has commenced the pipeline construction in October 2012, with an investment of around $170m.
The new pipeline, which is commissioned, runs from Hess gas processing facility near Tioga and ties into the Alliance mainline near Sherwood of North Dakota, while Hess is the anchor shipper for the pipeline.
The 12in diameter pipeline is expected to transport around 126 million cubic ft of rich natural gas per day, while rich gas is a natural gas, which includes natural gas liquids (NGLs) such as ethane, propane, butane and pentane in the gas stream.
Alliance Pipeline is a 2,300 mile integrated Canadian and US natural gas transmission pipeline system, which transports natural gas from the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and Williston Basin to the Chicago market hub.
The system has started commercial service in December 2000, and supplies around 1.6 billion standard cubic ft of natural gas daily.
Alliance Pipeline president and CEO Terrance Kutryk said, "The Tioga Lateral meets an important customer’s need for rich gas transportation and offers other Williston Basin producers the same opportunity to safely and reliably move their gas and NGLs to premium downstream markets via the Chicago hub, including connectivity to the Aux Sable world-scale NGL fractionation facility."
