Provisions of the agreement took effect on November 1. At that time, the bill for a typical residential customer in Virginia using 1,000 kilowatt-hours decreased from approximately $96 to $94 a month.
Under the terms of the settlement, the company agreed to reduce the requested increase by $3.2m primarily to reflect an over-recovery of purchased power costs for the 12-month period ending June 30, 2009. Allegheny provides service to approximately 102,000 customers in Virginia.
