Alfa Laval, a Swedish provider of heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling solutions, has secured a supply order from a shipyard in South Korea for Alfa Laval PureBallast systems.

As per the agreed terms, the Alfa Laval PureBallast systems will be installed onboard vessels to clean the ballast water in order to meet the International Maritime Organization (IMO) convention and the United States Coast Guard legislation, before it is discharged.

Alfa Laval’s PureBallast is said to be the world’s first chemical-free solution for ballast water treatment that completely meets the IMO standards.

The company will begin the delivery of the order, valued at around SEK50m ($7.7m) in 2013, which will be finalized in 2014.

Commenting on the deal, Alfa Laval Group president and CEO Lars Renström said that the order highlights the increasing demand for the company’s PureBallast system for new vessels.
