Alberici’s portion of the project includes constructing the upper floors of a 500,000-square-foot concrete building where mixed oxide fuel will be manufactured. Portions of the building will include concrete walls and floors as much as four feet thick.

The Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility, expected to cost $4.86 billion, will convert nuclear weapons to beneficial use in accord with arms control agreements. US and Russia have agreed to dispose of at least 34 metric tons of weapons-grade plutonium each.

“We are pleased to be working with Shaw AREVA MOX Services on this important project for our nation’s nuclear security,” said Alberici President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Kozicz.

Alberici is a subsidiary of Alberici Corporation.
