Albania's Energy Minister, Genc Ruli, says that Albania plans to increase its electricity imports from Greece as a result of drought that has severely affected the operation of the country's hydroelectric power plants.

Albania is currently experiencing power cuts of up to 13 hours a day in some areas. Data from the state electricity company, KESH, revealed that domestic electric production is accounting for only half of national demand. With record low water levels at hydroelectric power plants, fears were that some would have to suspend their operations.
