Aker Solutions has announced that it is one of five contractors to be awarded a three-year framework agreement by South African power utility Eskom Holdings to deliver a full range of nuclear engineering design packages at the Koeberg nuclear power station in the Western Cape of South Africa.
According to the company, the work will be executed from the company’s Stockton-on-Tees operation in the UK.
Kevin Jones, Aker Solutions’s regional manager in South Africa, said: We look forward to coupling our project management capability with our technological, engineering services for a variety of infrastructure and asset improvement projects which will enhance the safe operations of Eskom’s facilities.
The company said that Koeberg Nuclear Power Station has been operational since 1984. It has twin 900 MWe pressurised water reactors (PWR).
Earlier in the last week of February 2009, Aker Solutions said that it has been awarded an EPC contract to modify and develop the gas plant at Kollsnes on the west coast of Norway. This plant is processing natural gas from Troll, Kvitebjørn and Visund fields in the North Sea. The work will be completed by end December 2011 and estimated value of the contract is NOK 1.5 billion.
