Anglo-Norwegian conglomerate Aker Kvaerner has been awarded a NOK90 million contract to deliver mooring winches and fairleads for Statoil's GiA,a semisubmersible oil platform.

Aker Kvaerner said that its Aker Kvaerner Pusnes subsidiary will undertake the work, and that the equipment will be manufactured in Europe with delivery between January and August 2008.

The company said that the contract involves supply of on-vessel mooring equipment for Statoils GjA,a Semi, which will be installed at the GjA,a field in the North Sea. The equipment includes roller ram winches and fairleads for chains. The apparatus will be delivered and installed at Aker Kvaerner Stord.

Aker Kvaerner said that 16 roller ram winches and 16 underwater fairleads will be used to pull in and secure 150mm chains that are used in the mooring lines. Aker Kvaerner said that integrated safety features play a significant role in equipment of this type. The safety features on the company’s equipment include alarm systems, load monitoring, intelligent sensors and emergency stop.

Leif Haukom, president of Aker Kvaerner Pusnes, commented: The award of this contract demonstrates Aker Kvaerner Pusnes as a leader in innovative design and manufacturing of well proven on-vessel mooring equipment.
