Aker will manufacture and deliver the deepwater drilling riser system from its manufacturing plant in Port Klang, Malaysia.

Aker Solutions drilling riser business senior vice president Tom Munkejord said the unique technology behind the CLIP riser offers the drilling operator a faster connection and disconnection of the riser joints, which improves operational efficiency and safety.

"The drilling riser from Aker Solutions can be disconnected and pulled out of the water in half the time it takes to remove a traditional riser, which saves the operator time and money," Munkejord added.

The order for the drilling riser system is expected to be delivered in 2013.

This is the fifth contract Aker has won from Atwood and had previously delivered riser systems to Atwood Osprey and Atwood Condor drilling units and is manufacturing riser systems for the Atwood Advantage and Atwood Achiever units.
