Irish wind farm developers Airtricity have announced plans to develop some 110MW of new capacity in Limerick, Cavan, and Wexford counties.

The move represents the first such developments since ESB National Grid called for a moratorium on wind farm development in December 2003.

Under the latest programme Airtricity is planning the development of four new facilities, at Richfield, Co Wexford, with 27 MW, 50 MW at Bindoo, in Co Cavan, and the 25.5 MW Tournafulla and 7.5 MW Knockastanna projects both in Co Limerick. Planned commercial operation dates have not so far been disclosed.

Airtricity has also raised some €130 million to fund the new developments.
