An agreement to build the Wadi Dayqah dam, which will provide water supply to Oman’s capital area of Muscat as well as Quriyat, has been signed by the Sultanate of Oman and Vinci Construction of France.

Vinci is participating in the contract with local contractor CCC. In the first phase, a dam will be built across Wadi Dayqah at Al Mazara at a height of 74m and width of 400m. A secondary dam, 48m high and 370m wide, will also be built a few hundred metres from the main dam.

With these two dams, a reservoir with a capacity of around 100Mm3 of water will be created for supply purposes. In the second phase, facilities will be built for pumping, storing, treating, and piping the water to residents of Quriyat and Muscat for domestic and agricultural use.

Once completed the dam will annually provide 20Mm3 to Muscat, 5Mm3 to Quriyat and 10Mm3 for agricultural purposes.
