The exploration and production of the block was subject to the approval of the Parliament, after the company’s wholly owned subsidiary African Petroleum Sierra Leone signed a license agreement with the government for a 100% interest in the block.

The Sierra Leone offshore block covering 1,995km2 of area is located about 90km to 150km northwest from Anadarko’s latest discoveries namely Mercury, Jupiter and Venus, will be targeted for the hydrocarbons in upper cretaceous aged submarine fan systems.

African Petroleum has conducted a 3D seismic survey on the block and has identified many potential prospects on the block.

The block is also situated next to African Petroleum’s 100% owned SL-03 block for which the company has received the 3D seismic and identified the upper cretaceous fan system extending onto Block SL-4A-10.
