Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (Affiliated Computer) has introduced new energy efficient software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution. The new SaaS solution enables companies to reduce their personal computer energy consumption by up to 60% per computer and achieve significant savings. The PC energy management and monitoring service allows companies to reduce costs by avoiding the expense of installing and maintaining on-site software.

The new solution also allows the companies to align their energy consumption with other corporate green initiatives such as recycling and telecommuting.

The Affiliated Computer solution, which uses the power management software of BigFix, provides a quick return on investment by reducing a single desktop computer’s power consumption by as much as 60%, saving companies anywhere from $25-$60 per computer per year. Customers will also have an understanding of their energy consumption model and savings evaluation through a customized energy evaluation. This evaluation gives them the ability to define and apply reliable energy management policies across their enterprise.

Companies are faced with more challenges than ever before – limited budgets and increased pressure to reduce costs and achieve immediate return on IT investments, said Wayne Scalf, vice president, Affiliated Computer Global IT Service Delivery. ACS is in the business of optimizing resources and driving operational efficiency, and our new green IT SaaS solution is an extension of that commitment. By lowering their PC energy costs, clients can get an immediate payback.

Affiliated Computer’s solution enables IT organizations to apply energy management policies to a single computer through a centralized power management capability. Through distributed wake-on-LAN technology, the solution allows IT administrators to centrally manage and continuously enforce power management policies on all corporate PCs without sacrificing manageability, usability and security. The service also provides graphical, web-based reports of the power management progress, and a ‘what-if’ scenario calculator projecting savings for any policy changes.

As part of the company-wide green IT initiative, Affiliated Computer is implementing the new PC energy management and monitoring solution across its own desktop infrastructure and plans to expand the service to include other networked devices.

The company has also extended its initiative to the design of its data centers. Using server and desktop virtualization solutions, Affiliated Computer can consolidate processing into a single unit operating at near 100% capacity, accomplishing more with less and reducing the physical size of Affiliated Computer facilities and the power they consume.

Affiliated Computer is a US-based provider of business process outsourcing and information technology services to commercial and government clients.
