The publication reported that the company would be investing $400 million of the total $1.4 billion required to build the 1,200MW project, with the rest of the venture expected to be financed by institutional lenders.

AES is also looking to expand its power plant in the east India state of Orissa at an estimated cost of $1.4 billion. The plant is a joint venture between the company, which holds a 49% stake, and the state government, which owns the remaining 51%.
