AESWapiti Energy Corp has signed a 30-year power purchase agreement with BC Hydro for the output of a 184 MW coal and biomass-fired power project which is expected to be built northeast of Tumbler Ridge in northeastern British Columbia, Canada.

AESWapiti is developing the new plant, which will be co-fired with up to 20% bio-mass from local forestry waste, along with a 35 km, 230 kV transmission line.

The project also includes development and operation of a coal mine by Hillsborough Resources

Construction is expected to begin in late 2007, with the PPA beginning in 2010.

The estimated cost of the power plant is $450 million.
