The battery-based energy storage project is providing better response frequency regulation services to PJM Interconnection to balance the grid.
It is now bringing AES’ storage resources in PJM to over 100MW, all operating on AES’ patented operating system, sOS.
AES president and CEO Andres Gluski said that the company is pleased to increase its presence in Ohio with the addition of 40MW of advanced energy storage at DP&L’s Tait generation station.
DP&L president Derek Porter said, "With the combined corporate leadership of AES and DP&L, we look forward to providing the Dayton region with a safe, reliable and clean resource that utilizes energy storage to better serve our most pressing power needs."
The Tait energy storage array includes over 800,000 battery cells and connects through DP&L Tait station’s transformers. It is now bringing AES’ total energy storage fleet to 174MW of power plant equivalent flexibility resource.
AES US strategic business unit president Phil Herrington said advanced energy storage resources can uniquely maximize the performance and efficiency of the grid through their ability to act as both generation and load.
"With over 100MW now serving the PJM market, we are seeing a growing interest from AES customers in other key markets," Herrington added.
