American Electric Power (AEP) has completed its purchase of the 505 MW Ceredo Generating Station in West Virginia from a subsidiary of Reliant Energy for approximately $100 million.

AEP announced its intent to purchase the gas-fired, simple-cycle power plant in August. The plant, located near Ceredo, was designed and built for Columbia Energy by AEP’s Pro Serv subsidiary and it began commercial operation in 2001.

AEP plans to operate the Ceredo plant as a peaking plant.
