The plant is expected to employ thousands of through the construction and eventual operations. The facility will also change the financial landscape in Payette county, in a way that will require a variety of additional businesses to support the people working at the plant.
Don Gillispie, chairman and CEO, of Alternate Energy Holdings, said: “This is a major hurdle for AEHI, one which puts us on a path to building Idaho’s first commercial nuclear power plant and one of the nation’s first deregulated advanced reactors. The recommendation also sets the stage for many investors who have been waiting for a sign this project had legs to support the company.”
The project is expected to create almost $3bn for the state’s GDP during construction, with the majority going into the local area while providing low cost clean energy for the region.
