Aecom has secured a contract to provide project management services for a citywide storm water, flood-control and wastewater infrastructure improvement program in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Under the $171m contract, Aecom will provide all consultancy services for preliminary engineering works and supervision of the emergency and long-term solutions against natural disasters, especially flooding.

Aecom will be responsible for the implementation of dams and other flood control barriers, constructing drainage canals and storm water reservoirs resolving Jeddah’s most vulnerable flood points.

The company will also undertake comprehensive studies and infrastructure improvements for undeveloped areas, including environmental plans for the entire Jeddah governorate and establishing a disaster-management center for Makkah Province.

The program will be executed over the course of several years, and the completion of the flood control improvements are scheduled for 2013.

Aecom president and CEO John Dionisio said this flood-control and wastewater program will enhance the quality of life for the city’s approximately 3.2 million residents.
