The six projects are situated in Galena, Kake, Ketchikan, Haines, Minto, and Yakutat regions.
AEA biomass project manager Devany Plentovich was quoted by the Juneau Empire as saying "These projects have been in development for a number of years."
The move is part of the region’s plans to increase usage of biomass energy in the state and follows the new Environmental Protection Agency proposals that would affect Alaska’s biomass boilers.
Biomass boilers, which are designed to heat buildings, can be fueled with cord wood, wood chips or wood pellets and are in demand due to the increase in heating oil prices.
