The Ahmedabad-based company is considering to sign a memorandum of agreement within few months with the Odisha government to set up a 2,500MW coal-based power plant in Angul district.
Business Standard cited Adani Mining & Power CEO Rajesh Jha as saying to the press: "We are looking at couple of sites and the exact location will be finalised within few months. The investment in the project will be close to Rs 12,500 crore [$2.06bn]."
Raw material, such as coal washery rejects, from the Machhakata and Chhendipada coal blocks will be the source for the power plant.
Reuters cited Jha as saying that the power plant is expected to generate 1,000MW of electricity in Odisha by 2017, and will reach full capacity by 2019.
"We expect to start coal mining in two years," Jha said, adding that the power plant will use 25 million tons of coal every year when it touches full capacity.
