A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Adani Group’s flagship company AEL and Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation.

The solar park will feature generation projects and a manufacturing unit for solar module, parts and equipment.

It is expected to generate about 16,644 million units of energy and reduce 16.2 MT of carbon emissions.

The project, which is claimed to be the largest in India, will create several employment opportunities.

The Government of India has issued guidelines to establish about 25 solar parks, each with a capacity of 500MW and above, as part of its plan to develop 100,000MW of solar capacity by 2022.

Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani said: "India has embarked upon an ambitious program of becoming a world leader in renewable power generation, with a special focus on solar.

"The development of Solar Park facility is our contribution towards realization of our Honorable Prime Minister’s campaign and commitment towards clean and green energy in India."

Earlier in 2015, Adani Enterprises and SunEdison have agreed to jointly invest $4bn in building a solar panel manufacturing facility in Gujarat, India.

Both the firms will set up a joint venture for building the facility in Mundra, located about 50km from Anjar town in Kutch district.
