The Bokpoort CSP plant located near the city of Upington, Northern Cape Province, in the vicinity of Kalahari Desert will benefit from the solar and environmental conditions of the area.
The consortium comprising of ACCIONA, Crowie, Sener and TSK will act as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor and will build the facility and bring it online.
The facility will use parabolic trough technology and molten salt energy storage system.
The construction work will take 30 months time period once Acwa gets financial assistance and the South African government’s approval and commitment to purchase energy at the established tariff for a 20-year period.
