The Department of Energy of South Africa selected two power projects in the second round of the Independent Power Producers Renewable Bid.
The projects, which include a 135.2MW wind park and a 74MW photovoltaic solar plant, will be constructed between 2013 and 2014.
ACCIONA Energy will take a 51% stake in the projects, Aveng will hold a 29% stake, Soul City Broad-Based Empowerment Company will hold a 10% stake and the remaining 10% of each project will correspond to a Local Community Trust.
To be constructed in the municipality of Drakenstein, Western Cape Province, the Gouda wind park will be equipped with 46 units of 3MW ACCIONA Windpower turbines.
The Sishen photovoltaic plant will located in the municipality of Dibeng.
The installations will be built by the parties through engineering, procurement and construction contracts on a 50-50 basis.
The country plans to award 3,725MW in clean energy projects by the end of 2013.
