The entire 200MW project is executed in two phases, each comprising 100MW of two 50MW parabolic trough plants with the two plants of the first phase, Solaben 2 and Solaben 3, becoming operational in 2012.
Additionally, Abengoa Solar has closed the non-recourse financing of worth €200m for the second phase, which includes Solaben 1 and Solaben 6.
The project, jointly owned by Abengoa Solar (70%) and Itochu (30%), will generate enough electricity to power 104,000 households.
The complex employs parabolic trough technology, which consists of parabolic-shaped mirrors that track the movement of the sun on to the receiver tubes, where heat transfer fluid heats to around 750° Fahrenheit. The fluid that transfers through heat exchangers generates steam, which is then used to generate electricity.
