The field is being developed and operated by Eni Norway. A floating production storage and offloading vessel, which is currently under construction in South Korea, will be equipped with a package of electrical, automation, instrumentation and telecommunications products and systems from ABB.
Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of process automation division at ABB, said: “Reliable power and automation solutions enable our oil and gas customers to run their operations in a safe, efficient and sustainable way.
“As one of the most important recent developments on the Norwegian continental shelf, the Goliat project will have access to the most modern technology available, as well as ABB’s long experience in oil and gas operations in the region.”
The Goliat field is scheduled to start producing oil in 2013. Gas from the field will be reinjected into the oil and gas reservoirs to improve recovery rates or transported to the Snohvit liquefied natural gas plant. The field is expected to be in production for 15 to 20 years.
