Three contracts worth a total of $70 million have been awarded to ABB by Algerian utility Société Nationale d'Electricité et du Gaz (Sonelgaz) that will increase the reliability of electricity supplies.

The work for Sonelgaz includes replacing transformers with a capacity of 60 to 80 MVA with 120 MVA transformers. To meet immediate power demands, Sonelgaz has also ordered two mobile substations rated at 220 kV and 60 kV for installation in critical areas until fixed substations are completed.

A third contract involves the design, manufacture, testing, erection and commissioning of 60 kV gas-insulated switchgear, transformers and associated equipment.

The contracts are scheduled for completion in 15 months.
