ABB has secured a $25m order from Switzerland-based Etrion Corp to supply a turnkey power and automation solution for the Helios ITA 3 solar energy project in Italy.
The power project comprises two 5MW solar photovoltaic plants which are under construction near Brindisi and Mesagne in Italy’s Puglia region.
ABB will supply trackers, inverters, low-voltage equipment, medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, cables, distributed control systems, remote monitoring systems, auxiliary systems and video surveillance systems.
The company is responsible for the design, engineering, erection, civil works and commissioning of the power plants, as well as for connection to the local power grid.
The power plants are expected to generate up to 16.8GWh of electricity annually, avoiding approximately 6,700 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
Construction on the solar project is expected to be completed by the end of August 2011.
